Startup Partner

We are currently seeking well-rounded individuals who want to launch new companies, without taking on all the risk on their own. At Coup Capital, you will have a fair degree of autonomy, but will be expected to assist your entrepreneur with all aspects of the business, including but not limited to strategy, investment, marketing, platforms, and product requirements. In addition to being a proficient researcher, you should be able to brilliantly articulate the latest trends in software, hardware, design, media, mobile and branding.

Responsibilities include:

  • Evaluate different business opportunities and help determine which projects will advance from idea to prototype·
  • Engage with entrepreneurs and startups to understand their vision, pivot their ideas & determine product feature sets.
  • Lead the development of strategic roadmaps as companies go from the start-up stage to fully operational companies (considering: growth of employees/revenues, complexity of markets and dynamic market forces, evolution of internal & external company dynamics, etc.)
  • Manage relationships with entrepreneurs and startups through the engagement lifecycle, including brainstorming sessions with the internal teams and external startup teams/entrepreneurs to help shape new ideas for market launch.
  • Lead project for companies that will be moving forward with prototype and funding.

 Desired Skills and Expertise:

  • BA/BS in Economics, Finance (MBA or PhD strongly preferred)
  • Intimate experience developing/analyzing varying types of business models across different industries, at diverse stages (start-up, first stage, formative stage, later stage)
  •  Experience working in a startup environment with an understanding of how ideas are developed and launched to the market.
  • Tolerance for ambiguity and capable of managing a project from beginning to success
  • Extraordinary communications capability
  • Strong entrepreneurial drive with a demonstrated capability of achieving stretch goals in a demanding environment.
  • Notable creative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evolve product strategy and product ideas based on industry trends, research data, and gut instinct.

The creative partner works with entrepreneurs to create innovative products. The creative partner is responsible for the user experience of a new product, including visual design, branding, user research, growth hacks, product testing and analytics. With a high-level of autonomy, the creative partner will be responsible for working with the entrepreneur to get the product delivered and create a new disruptive company.

Responsibilities include:

  • Drive user experience, information architecture and design from end-to-end, including use cases, wireframes, gap analyses, mockups, prototypes and final product delivery
  • Design cross platform experience for mobile, tablet, desktop and any other relevant device
  • Work closely with other stakeholders on user goals, personas, use case development
  • Work within Agile (Scrum) process and create modular designs for scalability
  • Prepare deliverables for development teams to ensure flawless on-time execution; Deliver wireframes, UX flows, mockups, interactive prototypes, design specs and final assets for compelling experiences
  • Create product prototypes that can be shared with entrepreneur and potential investors
  • Manage relationship with entrepreneur and help ensure that any deliverables needed for project are provided (i.e. 3rd party API contracts, content, iTunes developer account)
  • Constantly evaluate market landscape for growth techniques, and consider how the user experience improves user acquisition, onboarding, user loyalty and referrals
  •  Stay abreast of innovations in graphic design, technology, and digital trends
  • Be able to move quickly between different projects and meet deadlines
  • Lead usability and user interface a/b/n testing and refine designs based on outcomes
  • As needed, initiate and manage user experience research and testing processes; Perform metrics analysis to inform design/UX optimization efforts
  • Draw from data, using quantitative analytics and research to guide your user-centered design process
  • Create the vision for developing, communicating, and implementing the user experience and associated UI framework and assets on a range of products; follow through with the user-centered design processes and tactics to implement the vision
  • Mentor and/or learn from other team members to perpetuate a culture of creativity, self improvement, and team building

Desired Skills and Expertise:

  • 5+ years of experience as a user experience designer, graphic designer or similar role in a commercial software development environment utilizing Scrum process
  • Solid information architecture background with a proven ability to make a very complex product seem simple and easy for the end user
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and shift gears quickly if requirements change.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Excellent communication skills in English with strong presentation and persuasion skills; demonstrated success in building buy-in for an innovative, bold, strategic vision
  • Strong knowledge of design guidelines, patterns, and libraries
  • Prior experience in the technology industry
  • A demonstrated talent for web and mobile UX/UI—must have strong portfolio to demonstrate this competency
  • Natural tendency to get along well with others in a very close team environment, and ability to communicate well with designers and developers alike
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with rapid output and frequently changing design requests, managing multiple project simultaneously
  • Visual design skills, including use of a diverse set of software such as Adobe suite, illustrator, OmniGraffle, Balsamiq, Azure, Invision, or other tools for visual design and working prototype creation
